So, I just learned about this, and I wanted to share because no one told me when my oldest was younger, and now his hips are messed up.
What is “W” sitting exactly?
This.
Her knees are bent and legs turned outwards forming a “W” with her legs.
This causes stability issues in the hips, knees, hamstrings, and balancing with their bodies.
Children with developmental delays tend to do this more and that actually makes it harder for them in the long run.
I didn’t know this was something to stop when MJ was younger, and we just found out he is in need of orthotics because of this!
We are catching this earlier with little miss and when we see her do it, we just tell her, “fix your legs,” and she moves them to the right position.
Her speech therapist told me she sees this a lot with kids like Kathryn who are essentially “non verbal.”
If your child continually sits like this, it is a good idea to see an Occupational Therapist for some help!
I hope this helps inform someone who also didn’t know about this!
